If you're new to crypto, let's get you started!
### Step 1: Exchanging Fiat for Crypto
To buy crypto with fiat currency like US dollars or Euros, you'll utilize what is known as a centralized exchange, also known as CEX for short. There are many CEXs to choose from. In this guide, we will use Coinbase as it's one of the biggest and most trusted CEXs.

After you've created and verified your Coinbase account, you're now ready to buy crypto with fiat on Coinbase. Follow this video to buy crypto on Coinbase, but rather than buying Bitcoin as seen in the video, buy Ethereum:

### Step 2: Creating a Self-Custodial Wallet
One of the biggest benefits of crypto is that you can take complete control of your. Rather than your money being held by a bank that could go bankrupt or lock you out of your account, with crypto you can have complete control and exclusive access to your money.
The tool you use to take complete control of your crypto is a Self-Custodial Wallet.
You can think of this as your own personal bank that you can hold your crypto in as well as receive crypto or send crypto from. With this control of your money comes more responsibility and there are important things that you must understand so that you securely hold your crypto.
1. **Private Key** - Your private key is a list of unique, random words that is the password to your wallet. NEVER give your private key to anyone or else they will have full access to your crypto and likely steal it. When you create a crypto wallet, which you will do shortly, you will generate your private key. Write this sequence of words down on paper, keep them secret and in a safe place. If you lose your private key, you lose your crypto. Many people like to engrave them in metal, that way if your house burns down you won't lose the keys to your wallet. 2. **Connecting Your Wallet** - To use most crypto apps, you will connect your wallet which we will talk about later in this guide. It is important that you only connect your wallet to apps that you trust.
3. **Mobile vs Computer** - While you can use crypto on your phone, it is recommended to use a computer for enhanced security.
There are many self-custodial wallets. In this guide, we will use MetaMask as it it's widely accepted as the industry standard and has been around for years. Follow this video to set up your MetaMask wallet:

### Step 3: Send ETH from Coinbase to Wallet
Now that you have your MetaMask wallet set up, you're ready to send the ETH you purchased on Coinbase to your wallet. Here is a short tutorial video showing how to do so:

### Important Tips
1. **Self-Custody ASAP** - Moving forward, as you buy more crypto on CEXs, it's important to move your crypto from the CEX to a self-custodial wallet as soon as you can. When your crypto is on a CEX, it is being custodied by the CEX. Meaning if something were to happen to that CEX such as bankruptcy of them shutting down, you won't have access to your crypto which has happened in the past. This is where the phrase 'Not your keys, not your crypto' comes from to teach the importance of self custody. So self-custody your crypto ASAP.
2. **Hardware Wallets** - When you begin to invest more significant amounts of money into crypto, you will want to use a hardware wallet for enhanced security. These devices store your private keys offline and are what is know as 'cold storage.' When buying a hardware wallet, it's important to buy the device directly from the website of the company. # Getting Started
In this guide, you'll learn how to get started using PulseChain. I think you'll find it surprisingly easy!
For this guide, you'll need a MetaMask wallet and ETH in your MetaMask wallet. If you need to learn how to set up a MetaMask wallet or how to get ETH, go back to the 'New To Crypto' section.
### Step 1: Bridging to PulseChain
The PulseChain Bridge is a protocol that allows you to bridge crypto from the Ethereum to PulseChain.
First, go to the PulseChain Bridge website 👉 [PulseChain Bridge](https://bridge.mypinata.cloud/ipfs/bafybeiahfpwhfdjf6iw4mwv5ytj7b6x4nmlxhwyae5ymfjdvszm6q5t3bm/#/bridge)
Hit the 'Connect Wallet' button in the top right to connect your MetaMask wallet.
Once you wallet is connected, make sure that you are on the Ethereum network as we are bridging ETH from Ethereum.
Once you've confirmed that you're on Ethereum,
1. Select 'ETH' from the drop down of assets.
2. Input the amount of ETH that you would like to bridge
3. Hit the purple 'Send' button and complete the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.
Below the 'Send' button you'll see an estimated completion time which varies based on the current bridging activity. When completed, you will have WETH (Wrapped ETH) in your wallet on PulseChain.
### Step 2: Add the PulseChain Network to Your Wallet
In order to start using PulseChain, you'll need to add the PulseChain network to your MetaMask wallet. This is extremely easy to do.
Step 1. Go to [PulseChain.com](https://pulsechain.com/)
Step 2. Hit the 'Add PulseChain to MetaMask' button
Once you have added PulseChain, you can now easily switch between PulseChain and Ethereum by opening your MetaMask wallet and selecting the networks drop down.
### Step 3: Add WETH to Your Wallet
In order to see the WETH in your wallet on PulseChain that you bridged, you'll need to import the WETH token.
To do so:
1. Copy the WETH token address: 0x02DcdD04e3F455D838cd1249292C58f3B79e3C3C
2. Open your MetaMask wallet, select 'Import Token,' paste the contract address, hit 'Next,' then 'Import.'
Once you've imported WETH, you'll see the WETH you bridged in your wallet when the bridge transaction completes.
## PLS for Gas Fees
PLS is the native token of PulseChain. PLS is to PulseChain as ETH is to Ethereum.
You will need PLS for gas fees in order to transact on PulseChain. Fortunately, a community member has created a bot that will automatically send you PLS when you bridge for the first time for gas fees.
So after bridging, you should see PLS in your wallet and have the ability to start using the chain.
# Buying Assets
If you followed the Getting Started guide, you now have WETH on PulseChain and you're ready to start buying assets! In this guide, you'll learn the best way to buy assets on PulseChain.
(If you want to learn more about PulseChain assets before buying, go to the Assets section and then come back.)
To buy assets on PulseChain, you'll use what are know as decentralized exchanges, or DEXs for short, to swap one asset for another.
There are many DEXs now on PulseChain, so the best way to buy is to use what is know as a DEX aggregator. A DEX aggregator is a protocol that searches all DEXs for the best price to buy an asset.
The best DEX aggregator on PulseChain is Piteas. Here is how you can use Piteas to buy an asset. In this example, we will be swapping WETH for HEX:
### Step 1: Open and Connect to the Piteas App
First, make sure that your wallet is connected to the PulseChain Network. Go to and hit the 'Connect Wallet' button in the upper right corner.
### Step 2: Select Assets
Once you've connected your wallet, select the assets that you would like to swap from the asset drop down. The asset on top is the asset your swapping and the asset on the bottom is the asset you're swapping for.
In this example, we're swapping WETH for HEX. Select WETH from the asset drop down menu for the asset on top and select HEX for the asset on the bottom.
### Step 3: Input Amount and Swap
Once you have the correct assets you would like to swap, input the amount of WETH that you would like to swap for HEX. Once you're ready to make the trade, hit the 'Swap' button and a popup from you MetaMask wallet will appear. Complete the transaction in your MetaMask wallet.
### Step 4: Import Token
If you're buying an asset for the first time, you'll need to import the token for it to show in your MetaMask wallet. Piteas offers an easy way to do it.
Simply hit the fox icon next to an asset on Piteas to add it to your wallet.
